Sister Ida Peterfy
Foundress

In Kassa, Hungary, God spoke to an eighteen-year-old girl named Ida in a way that was mysterious, yet with an impact that has been felt across a continent and beyond. God's words penetrated the generous heart of Sister Ida Peterfy and altered her life. He chose her to bear special witness to His Sacred Heart by radiating the vitality of His personal love and by proclaiming His message of Good News.

Inspired by God's infinite love, Sister Ida surrendered her life completely to God on October 7, 1940. That date marks the beginning of a Religious Community of women who share in Sister Ida's charism of proclaiming His love.

Today, we, the Sisters of the Society Devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, continue to be blessed by God in our life of religious consecration. We desire an ever-deepening union with the Lord through prayer, through the sacraments and through a loving Community life as we serve the Church. A charism - a "gift" of God - was given to Sister Ida. Trusting in the Holy Spirit, we strive to live out this charism that has now been entrusted to us.
